Restauration & Conservation
Alice studied the professions of Restoration and Conservation in Italy, and has since acquired many years of experience, in particular her specialization in the conservation of wooden objects. Holy Arks, ancient furniture, sculptures and sections of buildings – any object or artefact of significant cultural value, that it is vital to restore and conserve for future generations. Alice is uniquely proficient in the required techniques and methods, and insists on using only the highest quality materials in order to preserve their authentic look and durability for many years to come.
Alice restored the gilding of the Papal Throne in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. For the last 14 years Alice has been responsible for conserving the amazing animal sculptures of the famous artist Niki de Saint Phalle in the Biblical Zoo in Jerusalem.
In the last number of years Alice has undertaken the restoration and conservation of 7 of the 52 Italian Holy Arks that were brought to Israel through the “Rescue Operation” carried out by the Jewish Agency. These Arks were gathered and collected from many Italian synagogues that were abandoned as a result of the Holocaust, and they were transferred to Israel in the 1950’s. Alice’s dream is to eventually conserve all the remaining rescued Arks – the goal being to ensure the continued existence of these remarkable Judaica assets that were created by famous Italian artists and bring the story of their salvation to future generations.
